Our Wax & Polish Process

Your aircraft is a major investment that should last for years with proper maintenance. Over time, exposure to UV rays, jet exhaust, moisture, and airborne contaminants can degrade paint, dull surfaces, and cause corrosion. Regular waxing and polishing not only enhances your plane’s appearance but also extend the lifespan of the paintwork and protect against environmental wear.

Our detailing technicians use aviation-grade products and specialized equipment and techniques that result in a deep, lasting shine without compromising surface integrity. Every treatment is tailored to the aircraft’s finish type and manufacturer specifications.

The process begins with a full hand wash using pH-balanced, aircraft-safe cleaning agents to remove dirt, bugs, and exhaust residue. We then decontaminate the surface to ensure a smooth base for polishing.

Thorough Wash & Surface Preparation

Each aircraft surface is inspected to determine paint condition and the best wax or polish formulation. This assures maximum shine and protection without over-polishing sensitive areas.

Paint Evaluation & Protection Planning

Our technicians use high-speed orbital polishers and microfiber applicators to restore gloss and remove oxidation, swirl marks, and surface haze. This stage revives color depth and clarity across all painted surfaces.

Machine or Hand Polishing

We apply a high-performance polymer or carnauba-based aircraft wax, depending on your preference and flight conditions. This creates a durable protective layer that repels dirt, water, and UV rays while making future cleanings easier.

Premium Wax Application

Every aircraft undergoes a detailed final inspection to ensure an even, flawless finish from nose to tail—because perfection is our standard.

"How often should I have my aircraft waxed and polished?"

For most aircraft, we recommend a full wax and polish every 6 to 12 months, depending on flight frequency, hangar storage, and exposure to environmental elements. Aircraft stored outdoors or flown frequently in harsh conditions (salt air, humidity, or high UV exposure) may benefit from quarterly waxing to maintain maximum protection and shine.

"What type of wax do you use on aircraft?"

We use only aviation-grade polymers and carnauba-based waxes, formulated specifically for aircraft finishes. These products provide superior UV protection, withstand high-altitude environmental stress, and are safe for all types of paint and composite surfaces. Every product we apply is FAA-approved and non-corrosive.

"Can waxing really improve aircraft performance?"

Yes — a properly polished and waxed aircraft surface can reduce surface drag, improving aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. While the performance gains are subtle, they can contribute to smoother airflow and less grime buildup over time.

"What’s the difference between polishing and waxing?"

Polishing involves refining the paint surface to remove oxidation, swirl marks, and minor imperfections. Waxing, on the other hand, is the protective step that seals the paint and adds shine. At Blue Ridge Jet Shine, both steps are performed together to restore brilliance and protect your aircraft’s finish in the long term.

"Will the waxing process remove scratches or oxidation?"

Our polishing process can reduce or eliminate light surface scratches, haze, and oxidation, depending on paint condition. For deeper scratches or heavy oxidation, we may recommend a multi-stage paint correction before waxing for optimal results.

"How long does the aircraft wax and polish process take?"

Time varies by aircraft size and condition. A typical single-engine plane may take 6–8 hours, while a mid-size or large jet can take 1–2 days for a complete wash, polish, and wax treatment. We’ll provide a time estimate once we inspect your aircraft.

"Can you perform waxing and polishing at my hangar or airport?"

Yes — we offer mobile detailing services throughout North Carolina and neighboring states. Our team is fully equipped to perform complete waxing and polishing at your home base, private hangar, or airport facility, following all local environmental and safety regulations.
